From
Sweeney Todd the Barber
Oi. Join us at the Peerless Music Hall for a light-hearted ball in celebration of the Hall’s new production of the musical play, Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Bangers & Mash
– the finest dance band on the East End – plays an
evening
of Victorian ballroom dance music, including a number of popular song
tunes,
for your dancing pleasure. Dance rotary waltzes, Viennese waltzes,
polkas,
schottisches, mazurka waltzes, reels, country dances, and the Patience
Quadrille by one of our regular customers, Sir Arthur Sullivan himself.
Mid
to late Victorian evening dress – any class – is admired, not required
and, as
always, vintage or modern evening dress is always welcome.
Whether you are working class sporting tawdry
finery or slumming upper class, you are all welcome, long as you act
peaceable on
the dance floor and don’t get caught lifting anyone’s pocket watches or
jewelry.
The event will feature our Peerless no-host bar (that means you pays for your own drinks, Luv!) and a light snack buffet including Mrs. Lovett’s delectable meat pies. As usual, your potluck contributions to the buffet are welcome.
Excerpts
from the music hall version of “Sweeney Todd” (not to be confused with
Mr.
Sondheim’s fancier operatic version) will be performed at
half-time.
Have fun – but watch your back.
