Our guests
are invited to bring their own period-style picnic lunch and to make
their
picnic site look as period as possible (Please note that the event is
not a
potluck. Our hard-working catering staff
will be taking a well-deserved holiday!).
Suggested
costume for the event is Edwardian or ‘Teens summer afternoon dress
(1900 to
1914), but, as usual, costumes are admired, not required.
To protect your complexion, hats, bonnets, or
veils, parasols, and sunscreen are highly recommended, and you may even
want to
bring a shawl to protect you against the changeable climate of
beautiful
Alameda, whose August afternoons tend to be considerably cooler than
River
City, Iowa’s.
After the
luncheon, the
always elegant Bangers & Mash will
play an afternoon of Edwardian and ‘Teens ballroom dance music and
mixers for
your dancing pleasure, ranging from waltzes, polkas, and schottisches
to the
latest Ragtime one-steps and two-steps to the newly imported Tango from
Argentina and Maxixe (precursor to the Samba) from Brazil. As usual,
the set
dances and “new” dances will be briefly taught or called.
This event is a thank you to all of our devoted fans, and we will not be charging a fee for admission. Donations for our brilliant and hard-working musicians will be gratefully accepted, however, both before and during the event.
